With cost-of-living pressures being felt right across the community, there was a wonderful opportunity for us to give back to those in need recently when we donated 20 pallets of healthcare products and personal care items to Foodbank.
After identifying a range of products that were able to be donated, Andrew Vacirca and the team at Truganina swung it action to make it happen, coordinating trucks from the Foodbank organisation to collect almost 6,800 kilograms of stock that will go directly to those in need of support.
“This donation will go a long way to providing access to personal healthcare items for the 69,000 people accessing Foodbank Victoria’s services each day,” said Nathan O’Brien, Food Sourcing Lead at Foodbank.
“Demand for our services continues to rise in the community with financial stress the main contributor. We are often hearing stories in the community where families and individuals are struggling with rising living costs, mortgage stress, and unexpected expenses.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve been able to ensure stock that is unable to sold in store because of packaging damage or an approaching used-by date, can be donated to families doing it tough in the community. And it makes an immediate difference.
“We’ll aim to begin distributing these within 3-5 days of receipt,” said Nathan. “The process involves bringing the donation into our central warehouse located in Yarraville for sorting and distribution. Items may go out as received or packed into personal care hampers which can be distributed directly to the community.
“Foodbank Victoria has a network of around 475 charity partners across the state who are working on the front line by providing access to nutritious healthy food and personal care items. Access is via various programs including cooked meals, pre-packed hampers, food pantries, and hamper/meal deliveries.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of Sigma Healthcare,” said Nathan.
