As we look to advance our sustainability efforts over the coming years, Sigma Healthcare is focused on delivering meaningful change across our entire supply chain. We recently released our Sustainability Report for the period from 1 February 2023 to 31 January 2024, outlining the company’s material environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics and providing insights on our operational impacts and the efforts we have made to manage them during this period.
Our approach to sustainability encourages healthy communities while reducing our environmental impact through good governance and transparency. Our key goals are:
- Environmental – Reduce our impact on the environment
- Social – Invest in the health and wellbeing of our team and the communities we serve
- Governance – Operate our business in an ethical way and transparently report on our operations and decision-making processes.
Key Highlights for 2023/24
Environmental
Delivering customer service excellence Australia-wide is at our core. Throughout the year, we have achieved delivery in full (DIF) and despatch on time (DOT) metrics above 99%. At the same time, we completed a route optimisation program that has already reduced kilometres travelled by over 1.7 million on an annualised basis, with 279t CO2e reduction.
We have reduced wastage and landfill, with Sigma facilitating the donation of over $2.2 million in inventory supporting charities in need. In addition, over 71% of our own waste has been diverted from landfill.
Through our solar program, we have approved the doubling of solar panel installation at our Kemps Creek NSW DC to further increase our self-generated energy usage which was over 24% for the period.
Social
Sigma continued to promote and encourage women in leadership with a targeted women in leadership program. Women made up 37.5% of our executive leaders and 46.5% of all vacant leadership roles were filled by women during the year. As an employer committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, Work180’s recognition of Sigma as an Endorsed Employer for all women confirms our ongoing commitment.
In FY2024, we announced a partnership with Love Your Sister Foundation, a charity supporting precision medicine for all cancer patients. Sigma is a proud Sam’s 1000 Heavyweight Campaign, reaffirming our commitment to support community not-for-profit organisations who align with our values.
Governance
Sigma is committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct and ethical behaviour in all our business activities and promoting a culture of honest and ethical behaviour, corporate compliance and good corporate governance.
Our governance structure that underpins our sustainability efforts was improved with an Executive Leadership Team leading the ESG Steering Committee. A key component of this committee is to provide the direction and set the framework for our next phase of maturity in sustainability, including meeting deeper reporting requirements.
Cybersecurity and data privacy continued to be a major focus area, and we have made ongoing investment into an ISO 27001 aligned information security program.
These are just a few achievements for the past year as we work towards our ‘Plan to 2030’. For further information, please refer to our Investor Centre and our FY24 Sustainability Report.
